WWW Search Engine Software for OpenVMS
ht://Dig Copyright © 1995-2002 The ht://Dig Group
The ht://Dig system is a complete world wide web indexing and
searching system for a small domain or intranet. This system is
not meant to replace the need for powerful internet-wide search
systems like Lycos, Infoseek, Webcrawler and AltaVista. Instead
it is meant to cover the search needs for a single company, campus,
or even a particular sub section of a web site.
As opposed to some WAIS or web server based search engines, ht://Dig
can span several web servers at a site. The type of these different
web servers doesn't matter as long as they understand the HTTP 1.0
protocol.
This is my port of ht://Dig version 3.1.6 to OpenVMS. It
should compile okay on VAXen, but unfortunately I don't have
the environment to build it. So for now binaries are available
only for Alpha and Integrity. Sorry. If you need something for OpenVMS/VAX,
perhaps SWISH-
E (binaries for OpenVMS are available on the WASD homepage) is the
right thing for you.
Requirements
- OpenVMS/Alpha 7.2 or later (the binaries were built under 7.2-2)
or
OpenVMS I64 8.2-1 or later
- TCP/IP Services, or a good emulation of these (e.g. Process Software's TCPware / MultiNet)
- a web server that can run executables, and that conformes
to the CGI standard (CSWS, WASD, OSU, Purveyor, ... - any will do)
- some to lots of free disk space, depending on the size of the site(s) being indexed
To build from source, you'll need at least Compaq/HP C 6.x, Compaq/HP C++ 6.x, and MMS 3.3 or MMK 3.9.
